TermDefinition
Alluvial Plain An area built up by rich, fertile soil left by a river.
Oasis A fertile area that rises in a desert wherever water is regularly available.
Wadi A dry riverbed that fills with water when rare rains fall in a desert.
Semiarid Having lower temperatures and cooler nights than hot, dry deserts.
Vary To show differences between things.
Polytheism The belief in more than one god.
Millennium A period of a thousand years.
Monotheism The belief in one god.
Covenant An agreement with God.
Prophet Messenger of God.
Expand To spread out; to grow larger.
Collapse A sudden failure, breakdown, or ruin.
Hydropolitics The politics surrounding water access and usage rights.
Fossil Water Water that fell as rain from thousands of years ago and is now trapped deep below ground.
Widespread Commonly occurring.
