Latin America Geog Culture

QuestionAnswer
Latin America the areas of the Americas which include Mexico, Central America and South America which are influenced by the cultures of Spain, France, and Portugal. They speak languages descended from Latin.
Temperate climate characterized by mild temperatures
Tropical climate characterized by hot temperatures and moist air
Isthmus Strip of land with water on both sides, which connects two larger bodies of land. (ex. Panama)
Canal man-made waterway that connects two bodies of water that allow the passage of boats or ships inland or to convey water for irrigation.
Valley stretch of low land between mountains or hills.
Basin the area of land from which all the water flows into a particular river.
Rain forest tall, dense jungle which has high amounts of rain fall per year; very hot and humid; and has many varieties of plants and wildlife.
Tributaries rivers or streams that flow into a large body of water
Amazon River largest river in South America flows east from the Andes Mountains for around 4000 miles passing through the Amazon Basin. This river carries more water than any other river in the world.
Air Pollution occurs when gases, dust particles, fumes (or smoke) or odor are introduced into the atmosphere in a way that makes it harmful to humans, animals and plants.
Deforestation the process of cutting and clearing away trees from a forest that results from the trees in a forest being destroyed faster than they can grow back
Romance Languages Languages originating from Latin to include languages such as French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, and Romanian.
Catholic a religion that is a branch of the Christian church with over 450 million Latin American members.
