| Five relationships | Confusion philosophy about social order where everyone has a place and respect is paid to elders, parents, and the government |
| Golden age | A time in a culture of high achievements in arts, literature, mathematics, and science. Generally occurs in times of peace and economic prosperity |
| Ganges river | A river flowing southeast from the Himalayas in northern India into the Bay of Bengal. The river is sacred to Hindus. |
| Gupta empire | Ruling dynasty in India during its golden age. Responsible for many achievements, including the concept of zero and decimal system |
| Himalayan mountains | A mountain range extending about 1500 miles along the border between India and Tibet. This mountain range isolated India from China |
| Monsoon | Seasonal wind of the Indian Ocean and Southern Asia, blowing from the southwest in summer and from the northeast in winter. |
| Siddhartha Gautama | Founder of Buddhism in India. Also known as Buddha |
| Confucionism | A philosophy that teaches that there is a natural social order to society which can best be explained through the five relationships |
| Hinduism | A polytheistic religion that was formed from a variety of different religious practices. |
| Caste system | A rigid social class system in Hinduism. Contains four castes determined at birth; priests, warriors, merchants/artisans, and laborers. |
| Buddhism | Buddhism developed in India by Siddhartha Gautama, and shares many of the core concepts of Hinduism. Believed in endless reincarnation |
