Praxis Testing & Scoring Terminology

validity the degree to which the tool measures what it claims to measure
reliability the overall consistency of a measure
raw score the original result obtained by a student on a test
scaled score the results of some transformation applied to the raw score
percentile the percent of the population whose scores fall at or below the score
standard deviation a measure that is used to quantify the amount of variation
mean the average of a set of numbers
median the "middle" value in the list of numbers
mode the value that occurs most often
grade-equivalent score score based on the performance of students in the test's norming group
age-equivalent score a comparison of a child's performance compared to age groups whose average scores are in the same range
