Standard Precautions (Used in all clinical situations & with dormant diseases ie tuberculosis) | Universal Precautions & Body Substance Isolation: all blood, bodily fluids, secretions/excretions (except sweat), nonintact skin, & mucous membranes may contain transmissible infection. Hand hygiene, gloves, gown, mask, eye protection, & face shield. |
Contact Precautions (in addition to standard precautions): | Transmitted through direct patient contact. Isolation room, gloves, gown, single use, and limit transport. |
Droplet Precautions (in addition to standard precautions): | Microorganism infections - large droplet: mumps, rubella, pertussis, & influenza. Isolation room, respiratory protection mask, & limit transportation of patient - if necessary mask patient. |
Airborne Precautions (in addition to standard precautions): | Small particle residue - Mycrobacterium, tuberculosis (active form), measles, & chickenpox. Respiratory isolation room, respiratory protection mask, & limit transportation -mask pt when necessary. |
