intravenous pyelogram (IVP)- exam of renal pelvis, ureters, and bladder to detect cysts, tumors, stones, or structures and provide info about structure and function iodine light evening meal, laxative intake night before, npo after midnight, before test drink fluids and empty bladder dye is injected through iv , as kidneys excrete the dye multiple radiographs record
cholecystogram- radiograph of the gallbladder to record the movement of bile iodine low-fat evening meal, oral meds night before, npo after midnight tech preforms x-rays, pt eats fatty meal, tech preforms second set of x-rays
angiogram-records size, shape, and location of heart and blood vessels to detect tumors and obstructions as well as lung, heart, and other organ problems iodine npo after midnight pt receives a sedative, dye is injected into a vein using IV, tech takes a series of x-rays
Upper GI series- examination of esophagus, stomach, and upper small intestines to detect obstruction barium sulfate light evening meal, npo after midnight pt is positioned with back against the film, pt drinks barium during exam
Lower GI series- exam of colon with contrast media to detect polyps, inflammation, diverticula, and other abnormalities barium sulfate low-residue diet for 2 days, no dairy, use of bowel prep kit, light evening meal and npo after midnight, enema and rectal suppositories morning of pt is put in sims, physician inserts barium sulfate enema, ma helps with frequent side to side turning
