Latin America

TermDefinition
Colombian Exchange The exchange of plants, animals, people, and diseases between the Old and New World.
Triangular trade The trade route between Europe, Africa, and the Americas, where raw materials, manufacture goods and slaves were trades between the three regions.
Moctezuma II The last emperor of the Aztecs. At first, he thought Cortes was the god Quetzalcoatl.
Hernado Cortes The conquistador that conquered the Aztecs from horses, guns, and diseases.
Conquistador A Spanish solider-conqueror
Atahualpa The last emperor of the Incas that tried to buy his freedom with a roomful of treasure.
Fancisco Piazarro The conquistador that conquered the Incas with gums, horses, and diseases.
Toussaint L'Ouventure A former slave that began Haiti's fight for independence during the Night of Fire. Haiti was the first Latin American country to gains it freedom from European powers.
Miguel Hidalgo A Criollo priest from Dolores that began Mexico's independence. He famously rang the church bells(Cry of Dolores) to call for revolution.
Simon Bolivar He was called the Liberator of Latin America. He was wealthy landowner; led Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador , and Panama to freedom. He tried to unite the countries into one country call Gran Colombia, but the unification of the country was unsuccessful.
Cuban Revolution The conflict that was led by Fidel Castro against General Batista. It resulted in Cuba becoming a communist nation.
Cuban Missile Crisis The time period when the Soviet Union negotiated with Cuba to place missiles on the island. The US placed a blockade on Cuba. this eventually, led to the removal of the missiles.
Bay of Pigs Invasion An invasion by Cuban exiles supplied with US weapons to attack Cuba Many were captured and their families were forced to pay huge ransoms to the Cuban government.
Zapatista A terrorist(or revolutionists) organization located in Chiapas, Mexico. Chiapas, Mexico is the poorest state in Mexico. the terrorists within the organization want to support the poor farmers of the region,by demanding the government make changes there.
