What caused colonists to call themselves loyalists or patriots? Whether or not they supported independence from Britain
What caused a shortage of goods in the colonies during the Revolution? British blockades of American ports
What was the main reason enslaved African Americans fought in the Revolutionary War? They were promised their freedom in return
Which side did Native American groups choose during the Revolutionary war? Some groups chose a side while others remained neutral
What is a turning point? An event that causes an important change
Which country supported the Americans during the Revolution? France
Where did the British hope to finally defeat the colonists? In the Southern Colonies
Why was the treaty of Paris important? It officially ended the war
What is an ordinance? A set of laws
What are letters and diaries that contain facts about historical events called? documentary sources
What contributes to inflation? printing more paper money
Who was the 1st woman veteran to be recognized by congress? Margaret Corbin
What led France to help the Continental Army? The American victory at Saratoga
What was the British Army's Campaign plan? To separate the new England colonies from the rest of the colonies ( it never worked though)
How did women contribute to the war effort During the Revolution? They fought in the war, brought water and supplies to the soldiers, ran farms and businesses, raised $ and wrote about the war.
How did the French help us win the war? They gave the Americans soldiers, officers, and ships.
How did the location of Yorktown help the Americans and the French? It made it easy for the Americans and France to surround the British and force surrender
What rights from the Declaration of Independence most affected how people viewed slavery after the Revolutionary War? The right to life and liberty
