SW Region (English)

Vocabulary

TermDefinition
Southwest region an area of the south and western United States. There are five states in this region: Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and Nevada.
canyon a deep valley with very tall sides of rock that usually has a river running through it
desert a large area of land where it is always very hot and dry, and there is a lot of sand
Gulf of Mexico Part of the Atlantic Ocean bordered by the southeast coast of the United States and the east coast of Mexico.
Rio Grande River a river in North America, starting in southwest Colorado and flowing southeast to the Gulf of Mexico, forming the border between the US and Mexico.
spring a place where there is fresh water that comes up naturally from the ground.
aqueduct a pipe which carries water to cities and farms.
refinery a factory where something such as oil is made more pure.
adapt to slowly change a behavior, actions or the way they look in order to be successful in a new situation or a new place.
