Republic of Tejas/Texas controversial-Mexican view-Tejas belonged to them and always had, but according to Tejas it was it's own indipendant nation (even had it's own flag, constitutuion ect.) later America viewed Tejas as their property and one of their states

Mexican Cession In 1848 The U.S payed Mexico 15 Million$ to obtain California, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, Colorado ad parts of Oklahoma.
Mexican-American War U.s Troops on land between Nueces R. and Rio Grande. Mexico Angry-thought land was thiers. U.S thought land was thier own. Then Mexican soldiers invaded and killed the soldiers on the boarder, enraging the U.S and starting the war.
Henry David Thoreau a man who was so against the war, he refused to pay taxes ( and went to jail) as a way of resisting peacefully. wrote the essay Civil Disobedience

Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo 1848-Mexico agrees to give Texas to USA and the Mexican Cession (CA, NV, Utah, AR, NM parts of CO an WY Mexico gave up half of its territory. USA payed promised to protect men living in Texas and in Mexican cession.Ended Mexican-American war.
Frederick Douglass A slave who later was freed and became an abolitionist. He spoke out against the mistreatment of African Americans.
manifest Destiny The idea that one has a purpose or duty to do something, given by god.
Santa Anna A power hungry dictator of Mexico in the 1830s. He rejected Stephen Austins request for seperation. He sent 6,000 men to quiet down th rebellious Texans who pespond by firing a cannon thus starting the battle of the Alamo.
Moses Austin A man who bought a lot of land in Texas in 1821, dreaming of starting a new colony. He died that year and his son Stephen Austin continued his dream. Austin texas in named after him.
