| Term | Definition |

| Hypothesis | It is a statement of what you think will happen during an investigation. Is normally a statement with If...then...because |
| Observation | It is something you find out about objects, events, or living things by using your senses. |
| Experiment | It is the use of scientific methods to test your hypothesis. |
| Variable | It is something that can change a test. |
| Independent Variable | It is one that you can change. |
| Dependent Variable | It changes when an independent variable changes. |
| Control Group | It is a standard against which change is measured. |
| Procedure | It is step-by-step instructions for completing a task. |
| Precision | It is the ability to consistently repeat a measurement. |
| Accuracy | It is the ability to make a measurement that is close to the actual value as possible. |
| Inference | It is a conclusion based on observations. |
| Evidence | It is the observations that make you believe that something is true. |
| Data | It is the information from which a conclusion can be drawn or a prediction can b made. |
| Experimental Group | The group that gets special treatment |
| Sampling | Examining random individuals from a population |
| Model | Objects or ideas that represent other objects |
| Surveys | Questions that are answered by people. Great for opinions. |
