Civil service exam An exam based on Confucian teachings that was used to select people for government service jobs.
Shi huangdi Emperor of the Qin dynasty from 221 BC to 210 BCE
Qin dynasty The Chinese dynasty that ruled from 221 BCE to 206 BCE
Dynastic cycle The cycle of change from ruling dynasty to new ruling dynasty
Mandate of heaven Devine right of rule in china
Five relationships Confucian philosophy about social order everyone has a place and respect is paid to elders, parents, and the government
Golden age A time in a culture of high achievements and in arts, literature, mathematics, and science.
Confucianism A philosophy that teaches there is a natural social order to society.
Dynasty A succession of rulers of a country from the same family.
Huang he river A major river of Asia in northern China. Was also called yellow river.
Han dynasty Imperial dynasty that ruled China from206 BCE to 220 CE. Also embraced Confucianism
Silk road Trade route from China to the Middle East.
