6th grade DBQ Terms
| Question | Answer |

| Task | The topic or claim you must prove in the essay. |
| Thesis | A claim - the restatement of the task and your answer in one sentence. |
| Introduction | AT LEAST a three sentence paragraph that gives the reader a general background about the topic. It usually tells, "who, what,where and when" and includes the thesis. |
| Evidence | Details from the document that supports the thesis. |
| Body paragraph | Includes details from the documents and explanations that help prove part of the thesis. |
| Transition word | Words that help connect the thesis and the body paragraphs. Transition word also help connect examples and ideas in the body paragraph. |
| Conclusion | A paragraph that starts with the thesis and includes a sum-it-up sentence and a connection to the modern world. |
| Topic sentence | First sentence in a body paragraph. It includes the topic of the paragraph and a connection to the thesis. |
| Closing sentence | Last sentence in a body paragraph. It sums up the topic of the paragraph. It is not exactly the same as the topic sentence. |
| Explaining sentence | A sentence that tells the reader how the evidence from the document helps prove the thesis. |
| Paraenthetical citation (DOC #) | Written after a sentence to tel in which document the evidence was found . |
| Sum-It-Up sentence | A genreal sentence in the conculsion paragraph that gives the gist of what you wrote. |
| Reference to future | A sentence that shows how the topic of the essay relates to modern times or how the topic is important to the world today. |
