What is the definition of deforestation? The widespread cutting of trees on a large scale.
What are the effects of deforestation? Adds CO2 to atmosphere, loss of biodiversity, extreme temp. changes, which leads to climate change, loss of habitat, soil erosion, and corrupted water cycle.
What are the causes of deforestation? Logging, to clear land for building, mining, fires, agriculture, and slash and burn.
What is biodiversity? Different types of animals.
What is the definition of urbanization? When people from rural areas move into urban areas.
What are the effects of urbanization? There is more diversity where they move to, deforestation, desertification, pollution, overpopulation, less resources, more commute-traffic.
What are the causes of urbanization? More jobs, more entertainment, better housing, better schools.
What is the definition of burning fossil fuels? Finding and using a nonrenewable fossil fuel as a power source.
What are three forms of fossil fuels? Oil, natural gasses, and coal.
What are the effects of burning fossil fuels? Global warming, pollution, climate change.
What are fossil fuels used as? Electricity, energy, transport, products: cosmetics, meds and plastic.
What is the definition of dam building? A wall built across a water way to prevent flooding.
What are the causes of dam building? To prevent floods, generate energy, provide water when needed.
What are the effects of dam building? People will have to move, loss of animal habitats and biodiversity.
What is the definition of mining? Mining is the removal of valuable minerals and ores from the earth.
What are the causes of mining? To produce energy, to construct roads or bridges, and to make many different products.
What are the effects of mining? Environmental issues, erosion, the loss of animal habitats, loss of biodiversity, causes sinkholes to form, contaminates soil, groundwater and surface water. It also affects the health of both animal and people in that area.
What is agriculture? The growing of food and raising of livestock.
What are the two farming techniques that contribute to deforestation? Terrace farming and slash-and-burn.
