Early European colonies in the New World

TermDefinition
Mercantilism An economic system where colonies exist to make the home country wealthy and powerful.
Northwest Passage A sea route from the Atlantic to the Pacific.
John Cabot An Italian explorer.
Henry Hudson An English explorer who made four voyages searching for the Northwest Passage.
Mississippi Valley The largest drainage ditch in North America.
Huron A native group that held an alliance with the French.
Coureur de Bois French traders who lived among the natives.
Alliance An agreement between parties that benefit both sides.
