What is nomadic? People who moved from place to place as changes in seasons made food available in different areas
What are the seven regions? Northwest Coast, California-Intermountain, Southwest, Plateau, Great Plains, Eastern Woodlands and Southeast regions
What are artifacts? Human-made objects that help us understand how the people who made them lived
What was one artifact of the Northwest Coast indians? The Kwakiutls carved totem poles. They carved animals, humans and spirits on these. They dinvidated the family's history and social position.
What was one artifact of the California-Intermountain Pomos? They made beautiful beads from shells and clams. They used them as money.
What was one artifact of the Southwest Hopis? They made beautiful clay pots and decorated them with geometric designs. They used them to cook and store food in
What was one artifact of the Plateau Yakimas? They made digging sticks to help dig up roots for food.
What was one artifact of the Great Plains Sioux? They used buffalo hides to keep warm and recorded their histories by painting on them. They even made shields from buffalo!
What was one artifact of the Eastern Woodland Algonquins? They made fast, light canoes from cedar trees and birchbark
What was one artifact of the Southeast Seminoles? They built flat-bottomed dugout canoes from tree logs to move along the shallow streams
