| Cartographer | a person who makes maps |
| Absolute Location | exact location using longitude and latitude |
| Parallels | latitude lines |
| Meridians | longitude lines |
| Equator | 0 degrees latitude |
| Prime Meridian | 0 degree longitude |
| Northern Hemisphere | location above the Equator |
| Eastern Hemisphere | location to the east of the Prime Meridian |
| Southern Hemisphere | location to the south of the Equator |
| Western Hemisphere | location to the west of the Prime Meridian |
| Political Map | a map that shows cities, country borders, states, etc. |
| Physical Map | a map that shows physical features, such as landforms, mountains, deserts, lakes, etc. |
| Globes | scale models of Earth, very accurate shapes and sizes of continents, can measure distances, NOT as much detail as maps |
| GPS | uses a group of 24 satellites (Global Positioning System) |
| Aerial Photographs | allows us to see how land is used, how land and land use have changed over time, what buildings look like, etc. |
| Reason For Map Projections | the world is a sphere, it can't be shown exactly on a flat map |
