Nullification Crisis South Carolina wanted to cancel the tariff of abominations, which caused this reaction.
Virginia and Kentucky Resolutions This said that if a state did not agree with a federal law they could not cancel it, or not abide by it.
Trail of Tears 4,000 Cherokees died during this relocation of their people.
Whigs Agreed with Calhoun who believed that the national bank charter should have been removed.
Democrats Jackson and this supporters, that wanted to get rid of the national bank.
Spoils System The act of firing government officials in order to fill those positions with your supporters.
Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo This marked the end of the Mexican American war and gave California, New Mexico, and Arizona to the U.S.
The Alamo Was a battle that Texans lost, but it showed their willingness to battle to the end.
Polk Was president when the Mexican cession and the Oregon territory was annexed (added) to the U.S.
San Jacinto This was the final battle of the Texas war for independence.
This was the last territory we PURCHASED (paid for). It was PURCHASED from Mexico in 1853 because we wanted to build a railroad through the territor to the Pacific Ocean. The Gadsden Purchase (below the Mexican Cession)
This territory was CEDED (given up) by Spain in 1819. As a DIPOLOMAT (negotiator) John Quincy Adams, negotiated with Spain for it. The Spanish Cession (Florida)
Which 2 territories were won by WAR with Mexico? The Mexican Cession and Texas
How did the Mexican American War begin? A border dispute with Texas where gun fire was exchanged. Texas was annexed (added) on to the US, so Polk saw reason to go to war with Mexico for the Mexican Cession.
Polk compromised and negotiated (made a deal) with Britain to split this territory at the 49th parallel. The Oregon Country
The purchase of this territory from France (Napolean) by Thomas Jefferson doubled the size of the US. Louisiana Purchase
These people supported Jackson the most. Ordinary people, farmers and workers.
The Cherokee were one of the members of the "Five Civilized Tribes" for this reason They had learnerd and adopted many "white" ways.
Th Nullification Crisis was most upsetting to this group of people People who wanted STATES to have more RIGHTS.
Why did more people vote in 1828 for Jackson, then they did in 1824? In 1828 voting rights had changed giving most white men the abilty to vote with out having to own land.
