Foundation of Government

TermDefinition
Checks and Balance Each branch branch of government souch have the ability to limit the other branch.
Magna Carta A document that limited the power of the king of england in 1215. It also setup that everyone should have to obey the law.
Due Process People have the right to a fair and reasonable trial
Rule of Law All people must follow the law and it should be enforced fairly
Limited Government Government is limited to just the power given to it by the constitution.
English Bill of Rights Government Document that expanded the power of Parliament and limited more of the Kings power. Gave Free Elections, Rights to a fair trail, own a gun, and petition government and no excessive bail.
Mayflower Compact Was an agreement that was made at Plymouth Rock in 1620. Creating self-government.
Self-Government An agreement among individuals that create government that would provide order and protect the rights of colonists.
Common Sense A pamphlet written to try to convince America to fight against England and states everyone should have certain human rights.
Natural Rights A set of rights that people share called life, liberty, and property.
Social Contract An agreement between people in which both sides agree to something in order to reach a shared goal.
Separation of Power Government divided into different parts
