Government
review of types of government and distribution of power
| Term | Definition |

| oligarchy | rule by a few |
| democracy | all citizens may vote and participate |
| autocracy | one ruler with complete power- like a king or dictator |
| parliamentary democracy | a form of democracy with a prime minister as head of government who is elected from the legislature |
| presidential democracy | a form of government in which citizens directly vote for the head of government |
| federal | where power is equally distributed or shared with the central and state or local government |
| unitary | where power is held by the central government and is not distributed |
| confederation | states or countries volunteer to give power to the central government, but retain the right to withdrawn that power or leave |
| theocracy | form of government where religious leaders hold the power of the government |
| monarchy | a form of government that has a queen or king |
| prime minister | the head of government in a parliamentary government |
| Saudi Arabia | a country with a monarch |
| Israel | a country with a parliamentary democracy |
| Iran | a country with a theocratic governmnet |
