oligarchy rule by a few
democracy all citizens may vote and participate
autocracy one ruler with complete power- like a king or dictator
parliamentary democracy a form of democracy with a prime minister as head of government who is elected from the legislature
presidential democracy a form of government in which citizens directly vote for the head of government
federal where power is equally distributed or shared with the central and state or local government
unitary where power is held by the central government and is not distributed
confederation states or countries volunteer to give power to the central government, but retain the right to withdrawn that power or leave
theocracy form of government where religious leaders hold the power of the government
monarchy a form of government that has a queen or king
prime minister the head of government in a parliamentary government
