Geography Skills

TODALSS and Types of Maps

physical map Any map which shows the mountains, lakes, rivers and other body of water, deserts, and land forms.
political map Any map which shows governmental boundaries of countries, states and counties, location of major cities, includes bodies of water.
road map Any map which shows state and national highways, county roads and streets.
historical map Any map that shows movement of people changing boarders, battles and other historical events.
elevation map Any map which shows the different elevations of an area.
resource map Any map which shows the specific type of economic activity or natural resources present in an area through the use of different symbols or colors depending on what is being shown on the map.
What does the T in TODALSS stand for? Title
What does the O in TODALSS stand for? Orientations
What does title mean? tells you what the map is about
What does orientation mean? Includes a compass rose and tells you which direction is North
What does the D in TODALSS stand for? Date - when the map was made
What does the A in TODALSS stand for? Author - who made the map
What does the L in TODALSS stand for? Legend
What is a legend? same as a key and tells you what the symbols and colors stand for on a map
What does the S in TODALSS stand for? Scale and Source
