Important people, events and places

William Bradford Englishman on the Mayflower. He was the leader and historian of the Plymouth Colony. He was instrumental in drawing up the Mayflower Compact.
Squanto (Samoset, too) Befriended the colonists. He showed them how to plant crops, where to hunt, and where to fish. Helped the Pilgrims make peace with the Wampanoags.
John Winthrop He was chosen as the Massachusetts Bay Colony's governor. He and his assistants made the laws. He kicked out people who disagreed with their religious beliefs.
Roger Williams He was forced out of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. He believed it was wrong to take land away from the Native Americans. He founded the town of Providence and settled the colony of Rhode Island. It tolerated all religions.
