| archipelago | a group of islands |
| bay | a body of sheltered water forming an indentation of the shoreline |
| butte | an isolated hill or mountain rising above the surrounding land |
| canal | a narrow, artificial waterway for navigation |
| canyon | a deep valley with steep sides |
| channel | the deeper navigable part of a river or harbor |
| continent | one of seven main landmasses of the Earth |
| delta | a triangular land form at the mouth of a river where the river flows into another body of water |
| desert | a very arid area of land with little to no rainfall and little to no vegetation |
| estuary | a body of water formed when freshwater from rivers and streams flows into the ocean, mixing with sea water |
| equator | an imaginary line drawn around the Earth that divides it into two hemispheres, northern and southern |
| geyser | a hot spring that emits water and steam into the air |
| glacier | a large area of ice that moves very slowly |
| gulf | a large area of ocean that is partly surrounded by land |
| harbor | a part of a body of water that is protected and is a safe place for ships |
| hill | a naturally raised area of land lower than a mountain |
| island | a piece of land completely surrounded by water |
| isthmus | a narrow strip of land connecting two larger bodies of land |
| lake | a large body of water surrounded by land |
| mesa | an isolated flat-topped hill with steep sides |
| mountain | an area of land that rises very high above the land around it; higher than a hill |
| mountain range | a series of mountains closely related in position and direction |
| mouth | the part of a river that flows into a lake, river, reservoir, or ocean |
| ocean | a large body of salt water that covers nearly 3/4 of the Earth's surface |
| peninsula | an area of land that is surrounded by water on three sides |
| plain | a broad area of relatively flat land |
| plateau | a flat, elevated landform that rises sharply above the surrounding area on at least one side |
| port | a town or a city with a harbor for ships |
| prairie | a large open grassland |
| reservoir | a place where large amounts of water are stored |
| river | a large natural stream of fresh water |
| strait | a narrow passage of water connecting two larger areas of water |
| tributary | a stream that flows into a larger stream or other body of water |
| tundra | a vast, treeless plain near the Arctic circle where the ground is permanently frozen |
| valley | low land between mountains or hills |
| volcano | an opening in the Earth's crust from which lava, ash, and steam escape |
