Exploration Vocabulary

TermDefinition
Trade: buying and selling goods to another country
Natural resources: materials found in nature
Native: a person born in that specific country
Indigenous: a native
Conquer: take control of
Conquistador: a Spanish explorer
The Americas: North America, central America, South America
Colony: a country or area controlled by another country
Imperialism: a large country growing stronger by taking over poorer and weaker countries that have important resources
Alliances Agreements or promises to defend and help another country.
Empire Where a powerful country controls several less powerful countries.
Militarism Building up armed forces and getting ready for war.
Nationalism Having pride in your country and being ready to defend it.
Allied Powers: SERB-FA Serbia, England (G.B.), Russia, Belgium, France, America (U.S.)
Central Powers: BAT-G Bulgaria, Austria-Hungary, Turkey (Ottoman Empire), Germany
