| Term | Definition |

| Geography | The study of the human and non-human features of earth |
| Cardinal Directions | North, South, East, and west |
| Intermedian Directions | Northwest, Southwest, Northeast, and Southeast |
| Latitude | Distance north or south of the equator. Latitude lines run eastwest. (Parallel) |
| Degrees | Units that measure angles. Equator divides Earth in half. Each half is a hemisphere |
| Longitude | Is distance east or west of the prime meridian. _________ lines run North to South. |
| Location | Where is it located? |
| Absolute location | A place's exact position using latitude and longitude. |
| Relative Location | Location relative to another place. |
| Place | Refers to phsical and human characteristics of an area. |
| Region | Large area with at least one phsical or human features in common. |
| Movement | How people, goods, and ideas get from place to place. |
| Human Enviroment Interaction | How people affect their environment. (Positive or negitive) |
| Tittle | Tells what the map shows |
| Key | What the symbols and shadings mean. |
| Compass Rose | Diagram that shows direction (cardinan and intermedian) |
| Locator Map | Shows where the area on the map is located within a larger area. |
| Scale bar | Shows how much space on the map repesents distance on land |
| Phsical Maps | Shows natural features and landforms |
| Political Maps | Shows political units such as countries, states, capitals & cities. (colorful) |
| Special Purpose Maps | Shows the distrubution of human of physical features. (ex-climate, rainfall, population, has a special purpose) |
