Who was James Oglethorpe? A member of parliament and one of the 21 trustees who helped settle the colony of Georgia.
What were the three reasons for the British wanting to settle GA? Charity, economics and defense/protection
Where was the GA colony going to be located? Between the Savannah and Altamaha Rivers all the way to the Pacific Ocean.
How many years was the Charter of 1732 supposed to last? 21 years.
Who was Tomochichi? The chief of the Yamacraw Indians who lead Oglethorpe to the Yamacraw Bluff which soon became Savannah.
What was Mary Musgrove's serving Oglethorpe as. She was the interpreter between Tomochichi and Oglethorpe.
What was the first settled colony of GA? Savannah.
Who were the Salzbergers? They were Protestants from Germany.
Who were the Malcontents? They were mostly Scotts who became angry with the Trustees because the trustees didn't aid in getting them to the new colony.
What area of GA did the Slazbergers colonize? Ebenezer , GA
What did the Spanish, who settled in FL, want? They were interested in the Carolinas.
What battle led to the protection of and colonization of GA? The Battle of Bloody Marsh.
When was the end of the Trustee Period? 1743
What were some of the reason for the end of the Trustee Period? 1. People wanted more land and slaves, and carried out that want. 2. People began to buy and sell liquor/alcohol became a problem. 3.Oglethorpe was called to answer charges then didn't come back.
What was a reason James Oglethorpe wanted to settle GA? One of his good friends died in a jail that he went to for debts, so he wanted a place where people could go without the poor conditions of the England jails.
What are of GA was colonized by the highland Scotts? Darien, GA.
What fort was built as protection for GA? Fort Frederica
