| artifact- | objects made by humans, such as tools or weapons |
| fossil- | the trace or imprint of a plant or animal that has been preserved in rock |
| nomad- | people who move from place to place with the seasons in search of food |
| technology- | tools and methods use to help humans perform tasks |
| domesticate- | to tame animals and plants for human use |
| specialization- | the development of different kinds of jobs |
| agriculture- | the raising of crops and livestock for food or for other products that are useful to humans |
| migration- | movement of people from one place to another |
| Paleolithic Era- | Old Stone Age; era which tools were first developed |
| Neolithic Era- | New Stone Age |
| civilization- | complex society with cities, organized government, art, religion, class divisions, and a writing system |
| excavate- | the act of digging |
| culture- | beliefs, customs, practices, and behavior of a particular nation or group of people |
| hunter-gatherer- | early humans that survived by hunting small animals and gathering plants |
| ice age- | a period of time during which surface temperatures dropped significantly and huge ice sheets spread out over the world |
