Key Vocabulary Words for European Government Terms
| Term | Definition |

| unitary | One central government has power. (LITTLE countries). |
| confederation | Countries choose or volunteer to participate. |
| federal | Power is divided between the central, state, and regional governments. (BIG countries). |
| autocratic | One leader has power. (AUTOmobile) |
| oligarchic | A few rich people rule. |
| democratic | People have full rights to participate in the government and vote on their leaders. |
| presidential | Many branches of government. Additionally, the President does NOT have to be a member of the legislative branch. |
| parliamentary | One branch of government and usually it is called PARLIAMENT. |
| absolute monarchy | A King/Queen has ABSOLUTE power. |
| constitutional monarchy | According to the constitution, the King/Queen has little or no power. |
