Definition of Social Studies

| Social Studies | The study of the social sciences like political science, history, sociology, and many other topics. |
| Geography | The study of the earths' physical feature, like mountains and valleys. |
| Sociology | The study of the development, structure, and functioning of human society. |
| History | The study of past events, particularly in human affairs. |
| Archaeology | The study of human history and prehistory through the excavation of sites and the analysis of artifacts and other physical remains. |
| Equator | The imaginary line that divides the wold into the Northern and Southern hemispheres. It's location is 0° latitude. |
| Prime Meridian | The imaginary line that separates the Western and Eastern hemispheres. It's location is 0° longitude. |
| Compass Rose | A circle showing the principle directions printed on a map or chart, for example North, South, East, West. |
| Continents | Any of the world's main continuous expanses of land. |
| Ocean | A very large expanse of sea, in particular, each of the main areas into which the sea is divided. |
| Physical | Indicates desserts, mountains, and plains. |
