| Term | Definition |

| Island | a tract of land surrounded by water and smaller than a continent |
| Bog | wet spongy ground |
| Tributary | a stream feeding a larger stream or a lake |
| Peninsula | a piece of land that is almost entirely surrounded by water and is attached to a larger land area |
| deserts | such land having a very warm climate and receiving less than 25 centimeters (10 inches) of sporadic rainfall annually |
| plateaus | a large flat area of land that is higher than other areas of land that surround it |
| isthmus | a narrow area of land that connects two larger land areas |
| arid | very dry |
| tropical | of, being, or characteristic of a region or climate that is frost-free with temperatures high enough to support year-round plant growth given sufficient moisture |
| semiarid | characterized by light rainfall; having from about 10 to 20 inches (25 to 51 centimeters) of annual precipitation |
| mountain | an area of land that rises very high above the land around it and that is higher than a hill |
| delta | a piece of land shaped like a triangle that is formed when a river splits into smaller rivers before it flows into an ocean |
