Term | Definition |

1. Claim | Your basic belief about a particular topic issue ,event, or idea. |
2. Counterclaim | A solid and reasonable argument that opposes or disagrees with your claim. |
3. Rebuttal | A written or verbal response to a counterclaim;the object of the rebuttal is to take into account the ideas presented in the counterclaim and explain why they aren't persuasive enough, valid enough, or important enough to outweigh your own counterclaim. |
4. Support | Your specific facts or specific evidence used to support why your claim is true. |
5. Refute | Argue against a position or prove it to be wrong. |
6. Qualify | A "partly-agree" stance in which you agree (in part) with another person's argument or position bot also disagree with part of it. |
7. Paraphrasing | Is writing a source's ideas into the writer's own words. |
8. Summary | A shortened version of something that has been said or written, containing only the main points. |
9. Evidence | A sign or proof of existence or truth of something, or that helps somebody to come to a particular conclusion;to demonstrate or prove something. |
10. Conclusion | A final part of something;the part that brings something to a close. |
11. Transition Word | Linking word or phrase, or passage that links one subject to another in speech or writing. |
12. Thesis Statement | Usually appears near the end of the introductory paragraph of a paper, and it offers a concise solution/argument to the issue being addressed. |
13. Edit | To prepare a text for publication by correcting errors and ensuring clarity and accuracy. |
14. Introduction | A section at the beginning of a book or other piece of writing that summarizes what it is about or sets the scene. |
15. Cohesion | Joining or working together; the state or condition of joining, linking, or working together to form a united whole. |
