Texas Geography Terms, Lambeth, 7th grade

TermDefinition
Absolute Location The term Geographers use to describe the exact location of a place.
Relative location The location of a place compared to another place.
Physical Map A map that highlights many of the natural features of a place, such as mountains, rivers, and lakes, by using color and shading.
Longitude The measure of distance east and west from the prime meridian.
Latitude The measure of distance north and south from the equator.
Escarpment A steep cliff.
Drought Long periods in which rain falls at a much lower rate than usual and may cause severe damage to crops.
Erosion Gradual wearing away of something, such as soil.
Landforms Shapes and types of land.
Region Area of the world that has similar, unifying characteristics
Geography Study of Earth
Physical Geography The study of the land and it's features.
Human Geography Learning about people and their ways.
Climate The average weather of a place over a period of 20 - 30 years.
Vegetation Plant life that grows in an area.
