TermDefinition
citizen A person with certain rights and responsibilities in his or her country or community.
citizenship The duties and responsibilities of citizens.
civics The study of the duties and rights of citizens.
naturalization Becoming a citizen through a five step legal process.
alien Foreign-born residents who have not been naturalized.
government The ruling authority for a community.
refugee A person who has to leave his or her country to find safety.
responsibility Things citizens should do.
duty Things citizens are required to do.
tolerance Freedom from Prejudice.
volunteerism The practice of offering your time and services to others without payment.
popular sovereignty A belief that ultimate power resides in the people.
immigrant A person who comes to a country where they were not born in order to settle there.
ethnic group People of the same race or nationality who share a distinctive culture.
