What was the name of the man that had suggested to Queen Elizabeth that she start a colony in North America? Sir Walter Raleigh
During the first attempt to set up the new colony, the Roanoc natives stopped giving the colonists food. Why did they do that? one of the colonists killed their leader
Why did Raleigh choose John White as the governor for the new colony? He had gone to the area during the first trip. He had sketched the plants, animals, and people he saw there.
Who was John White's grand-daughter? Virginia Dare
Why did White return to England? to get more supplies
What did White tell the colonists to do if they decided to move? to carve a message into a tree, or to carve a cross if they were in danger
When White made it back to England, what was going on? war with Spain
How long was it before White could return to the new colony? 3 years
What did John White find when he returned to Roanoke? The word "Croatoan" was carved into a tree.
Why did John White end his search for the lost colonists? storms, low supplies, and complaints from the crew made the search difficult
What happened to the colonists who came to Roanoke with John White? no one knows, they disappeared
