What is geography?

Geography The study of Earth's physical and cultural features.
landforms the natural features of the land’s surface
climate the average weather conditions in a certain area over a long period of time
environment all the living and nonliving things that affect life in an area
compass rose allows a reader of a map to orientate the map or to determine which way is north on the map
cartographers create maps
Map Legend where the symbols used on the map are explained.
Scale indicates how much a map is "zoomed" or magnified
Physical Maps illustrate the physical features of an area, such as the mountains, rivers and lakes
Political Maps do not show physical features. Instead, they indicate state and national boundaries and capital and major cities
Road Maps show major and some minor highways and roads, airports, railroad tracks, cities and other points of interest in an area
Topographical Maps include contour lines to show the shape and elevation of an area.
Resource and Economic Maps feature the type of natural resources or economic activity that dominates an area
Climate Maps give general information about the climate and precipitation (rain and snow) of a region
