| Buddhism | the religion that spread to Japan through India and Korea, they considered Buddha a magical protector |
| Kana | the syllabry used in Japan. it was modeled after the Chinese Kanji but adapted to fit their grammar |
| pagoda | a temple with 3, 5, 7, or 9 rooves. it was taken from China and they used it to worship kami and boddhavattas |
| Nara | the capital of Japan; it had the same layout as the Chinese capital Chang'an but smaller and no wall to keep out enemies |
| Shinto | the native religion of Japan. it worshiped their love of nature and spirits that they called Kamis |
