Math Chapter 8 Vocabulary IV

radius any line segment that connect the center to a point on the circle
center a point within a circle that is the same distance from all points on a circle
circle a closed plane figure in which all the points are the same distance from a point called the center
congruent figures figures that have the same shape and the same size
diameter a line segment that connects two points on a circle and passes through the center
turn (rotation) moves a figure about a point
chord any line segment that connects any two points on a circle
flip (reflection) to turn a plane figure over
slide (translation) a change in position of a figure that moves up, down, or sideways
symmetric a figure that can be folded into two congruent halves that fit on top of each other
volume the number of cubic units needed to fill a solid figure
line of symmetry a line on which a figure can be folded so that both halves are congruent
area the number of square units needed to cover a region
perimeter the distance around a figure
similar figures figures that have the same shape and may not have the same size
