Inflantija Pārdaugavas hercogistē ietilpstošo zemju nosaukums poļu valodā; pēc 1629.g. šo nosaukumu attiecināja tikai uz Latgali. Pirmais vārdu ''Latgale'' 1900.g. sāka lietot Latgales kultūras darbinieks Francis Kemps.
Šļahta vidējā un sīkā muižniecība, kam Polijā - Lietuvā bija plašas privilēģijas; tā dienēja armijā, kalpoja magnātiem un karaļa galmā
