Slavery Terms

Use these terms for the test on January 15

People/Terms/DateAnswer
West Africa The part of Africa where millions of people were captured into slavery and brought to the Americas.
Middle Passage The name of the journey from Africa to the Americas.
Chattel Owning someone as if he or she is property.
Dehumanization Treating someone like he or she is an animal.
Indentured Servant Someone who agrees to work for someone else for 5-7 years in exchange for a free trip to the new world.
Triangular Trade The name for the journey slave ships took across the Atlantic and back. The ships carried slaves from Africa to the West Indies, Sugar from the West Indies to North America, and Molasses from North America to Africa.
1619 The year the first enslaved Africans were first brought to Jamestown.
