The Geographic Regions of Texas

TermDefinition
bayou A marshy outlet of a bay or a slow-moving stream.
border A boundary line.
cultivate To use to raise crops.
desert An area that gets less than 10 inches of rain per year.
helium A gas that is lighter than air with no color or smell.
inland Away from the coast toward land.
landmark An object, such as a mountain, that stands out from the area around it.
livestock Animals that are raised by farmers.
mainland The main part of the continent.
mohair The hair of angora goats.
plain A large area of flat land with gently rolling hills and a few trees.
port A place where ships can dock to load or unload cargo.
time zone An area in which all clocks are set to the same time.
tourism The industry that serves people who are visiting an area for pleasure.
trading post A small frontier store.
lignite A type of coal
