the Korean War

Jiang Jieshi Chinese nationalist leader who fought the Civil War against communist before Japan invaded China
Mao Zedong Chinese communist leader who had support of the Soviet Union; took control of China after winning the civil war and renamed China the People's Republic of China
Douglas MacArthur General who helped drive invaders from South Korea; launched an attack on the port city of Inchon, one of the biggest turning points in WWII
38th Parallel The dividing line between North and South Korea. It is set at the 38th parallel of latitude. It is a fenced area designed to separate into 2 independent countries. Chosen by US Military planners at Pots Dam Conference in July of 1945.
Limited War type of war fought to achieve specific goals; policy created by President Truman. When MacArthur criticized the policy he was fired for insubordination.
Southeast Asia Treaty Organization SEATO; defensive alliance aimed at preventing the spread of communism in southeast Asia
