satellite state States that were controlled by the Soviet Union

George F. Kennan An American diplomat and a leading authority on the Soviet Union. He outlined containment.
containment A blueprint for American policy that George F. Kennan created
Marshall Plan Made by George Marshall, to help countries in Europe recover from WWI
Berlin airlift In June 1948, Germany shut down anything involving with West Berlin. The United States tried to help lift West Berlin and protect them.
North Atlantic Treaty Organization Formed in 1949, helped provide the military alliance to counter Soviet expansion.
Warsaw Pact In 1955, West Germany became a member of NATO; the Soviet Union and its satellite states formed a rival military alliance. Pledged to defend one another if attacked
