The Sodbusters

subsistence farming growing enough food to feed you and your family.
Homestead Act Law passed in 1862 that gave settlers 160 acres of land if they would live there and farm the land for five years.
land speculator someone who buys and sells land to make a profit.
Grange Organization created to help and support farmers.
cooperative An organization that helps its members buy and sell as a group to get better prices.
regulate to change the way a group or company does business
market a place where people buy and sell.
diversified farming someone who grows a variety of crops with the intent to sell and make a profit.
