Jackson and the Growth of Democracy

QuestionAnswer
What was the democratic party? A major political party started by Thomas Jefferson in 1828.
What happened during the election of 1824? Jackson ran for president, but lost against John Quincy Adams because he didn't have enough electoral votes.
What happened during the election of 1828? Jackson became president.
What was the spoils system? The practice of rewarding political supporters with government jobs.
What is a tariff? A tax imposed by the government on goods imported from another country.
What is the Bank of the United States? A bank that held all of the president's money and gave loans to business men.
What were the issues of the Bank of the United States? Jackson disagreed with the bank, so he took all of his money out, and put it in local banks.
How are Supreme Court and the Bank of the United States connected? The Supreme Court found that the bank was constitutional, but Jackson demolished it anyway.
What was the Trail of Tears? The removal of Cherokee Indians from Georgia to Indian Territory in 1838 and 1839.
Who created the Trail of Tears? Jackson created the Trail of Tears to get Indians out of the East.
What was the impact of the Trail of Tears? All of the Indians that used to be in the East all moved West across the Mississippi River.
What was the Indian Removal Act of 1830? Jackson was allowed to make treaties in which Indians in the East would trade their land for territory on the Great Plains.
How are the Supreme Court and the Indian Removal Act of 1830 connected? The Supreme Court said that the Indians could stay on their land , however Jackson forced them out anyway.
What were the "Five Civilized Tribes?" The Creek, Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, and Seminole Indian tribes who learned how to farm, read, and write.
