What is a dictator? It is a leader who gains complete control over a country’s government.
Who is Adolf Hitler? He was the dictator of Germany, and his political party, the Nazis, believed in fascism.
What is Fascism? It is a form of government in which individual freedoms are denied and complete power is given to the government.
Who is Benito Mussolini? He was the dictator of Italy during WWII and also believed in fascism.
Who is Josef Stalin? He was the dictator of the Soviet Union during WWII.
Who is Winston Churchill? He was the Prime Minister of Great Britain during WWII.
What countries were part of the Axis Powers? The countries were Germany, Italy, and Japan.
What countries were part of the Allied Powers? The countries were Great Britain, Canada, the Soviet Union, and eventually the United States.
What invasion caused the beginning of WWII? WWII began when Hitler (Germany) invaded Poland.
When did Japan bomb Pearl Harbor? On December 7, 1941, Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, which caused the U.S. to join WWII on the Allied side.
What is D Day? On June 5, 1944, General Dwight D. Eisenhower led the Allied invasion of several hundred thousand troops at Normandy, France.
Why did Truman decide to drop the atomic bomb? President Harry Truman decided that the U.S. should drop the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki to force Japan into surrendering.
What jobs did women have during WWII? They worked as nurses, airplane pilots, radio operators, and mechanics during WWII.
What were relocation camps? They were prison camps in which Japanese Americans were held in the Western United States during WWII after the bombing of Pearl Harbor.
What was the Manhattan Project? It was a code name given to the effort to build an atomic bomb.
How was radar used during WWII? It was used in WWII to determine the location of ships and airplanes.
What did factories produce during WWII and what did it cause? Factories quit making consumer products and began making war supplies. This caused factories to expand, which created millions of jobs and caused the Great Depression to end.
What is the Marshall Plan? The United States provided funds, food, and materials to help countries rebuild in Europe.
What does the United Nations, UN, do? It is an international organization which works to preserve world peace, and was founded at the end of WWII.
