Speech given by George Washington in which he warned the countries not to form alliances with foreign countries and to not allow Washington's Farewell Address
Speech given by President James Monroe that warned European countries not to try to colonize in the western hemisphere. If they did, the U.S. would view it as an act of war. Monroe Doctrine
Speech given in 1861 that stated the North would not interfere with slavery in the states that already had it, but would protect the Constitution and the Union. Lincoln's First Inaugural Address
Speech given in 1865 that focused on ending slavery and bringing the South back into the Union. Lincoln's Second Inaugural Address
Speech in which Lincoln freed all slaves in the rebelling states on January 1, 1863. Emancipation Proclamation
Dedication of the Gettysburg battlefield as a national burial site. In the speech, Lincoln redefined the emphasis of the war as a war against slavery. Gettysburg Address
