| Cataract | a group or chain of large waterfalls that plunges down from a height or an overhang:such as long granite overhangs and boulders of the Nile |
| Hieroglyphics | Egyptian writing system using picture symbols to represent sounds |
| Papyrus | a long-lasting, paper like material made from reeds |
| Pyramids | huge, stone tombs with four triangle-shaped sides that met in point on top |
| Sphinx | imaginary creature with the body of a lion and the head of a man or other animal |
| Delta | an area of low, flat land, sometimes shaped approximately like a triangle, where a river divides into several smaller rivers before flowing into the sea |
| Tributaries | smaller rivers that flow into larger ones |
| Flood Plain | a low plain adjacent to a river, that is formed chiefly of river sediment, and is subject to flooding |
