Europe in the Early Middle Ages

What do the mountains block? They block the winds from the countries in the south and that is why it is always hot.
When did Charlemagne become king? In the year of 768.
When did the Roman Empire fall? In the year of 500.
When did Charles Martel reunite the Frankish lands? In 717.
What did Charlemagne want to build and expand? A Christian Empire.
Who were the three most important Frankish leaders? Charles Martel, Pepin the short, and Charlemagne.
What are monks? A religious leader.
What vows did monks take? Poverty, chastity, obedience, and remain a monk until death.
What were some opportunities convent life offered? Convent life offered study and scholarship, safety, shelter, and clothing.
Where did St. Patrick spread Christianity? Ireland.
Where did Pope Gregory I spread Christianity? England.
Where did St. Boniface spread Christianity? Germany.
Who invaded Europe in search of loot, a new climate and land? The Vikings.
How did Feudalism rise in Europe? The Emperor couldn't protect the empire so people look to the lords and the manor for protection.
Where are the Vikings from? Scandinavia, which is Norway, Sweden, and Denmark.
What is Feudalism? A system of government based on the exchange of land for loyalty.
