The Constitution
| Term | Definition |

| Judicial | the branch of the national government that decides whether laws follow the Constitution |
| Bill of Rights | the first ten amendments to the United States Constitution |
| Cession | the act of giving something up, such as land |
| Constitution | the official written plan of government of the United States |
| Due Process of Law | the system which includes the right of all citizens accused of crimes to have a fair public trial by a jury |
| Legislative | the branch of the national government that makes laws |
| Compromise | to reach an agreement to a conflict by each side giving up some of what it wants |
| Nationalism | a feeling of pride in one's country |
| Republic | a form of government in which people elect representatives to govern the country |
| Checks and Balances | the system by which each branch of government can limit the power of the other two branches |
