The Constitution

TermDefinition
Judicial the branch of the national government that decides whether laws follow the Constitution
Bill of Rights the first ten amendments to the United States Constitution
Cession the act of giving something up, such as land
Constitution the official written plan of government of the United States
Due Process of Law the system which includes the right of all citizens accused of crimes to have a fair public trial by a jury
Legislative the branch of the national government that makes laws
Compromise to reach an agreement to a conflict by each side giving up some of what it wants
Nationalism a feeling of pride in one's country
Republic a form of government in which people elect representatives to govern the country
Checks and Balances the system by which each branch of government can limit the power of the other two branches
