Communicable Disease A disease that can be passed on from one
Pathogens The organisms that cause disease
infection when a disease enters the body
bacteria one-celled organisms that live nearly everywhere
virus the smallest disease-causing organism
fungi life forms that feed on organic materials
protozoa one-celled organisms that are usually harmless but can cause disease
Rickettsias disease-causing organisms that are like bacteria but multiply much faster
vector an organism that spreads disease
contagious period the amount of time that a disease can spread between people
Immune system the system in your body that fights diseases
immunity the ability to resist germs
lymphatic system the cells in the blood that fight diseases
antigens substances released by disease
antibodies substances that keep antigens from doing harm
hepatitis a liver disease with symptoms like yellow skin and eyes
mononucleosis a viral disease with symptoms like a tender neck.
